20mm British Airborne Platoon Falklands

First update in relation to the next stage of my 20mm Falklands project, a British Airborne Platoon.

I'm intending to use this platoon for engagements of both battalions and as their organisation was slightly different I'll be needing to do additional figures

Operation Corporate involved 2PARA and 3PARA as well as some associated Airborne support elements and there has been some confusion over small unit organisation primarily around the allocation of GPMG at the section level.

Prior to Op. Corporate 2PARA were scheduled to deploy on a Belize tour and as such were allocated an additional GPMG per section as well as M79 grenade launchers at platoon level. Luckily the Bn managed to deploy to the Falklands with this extra allocation. This was not the case in 3PARA who deployed with the standard allocation of 1 GPMG team per section.

This is true of the platoons in the Rifle Companies, Patrols Company was different and another update will be required to relation to their specific orbats.

My basic Platoon will consist of a Platoon HQ of 4 men and 3 sections of 8 men.

I'll be using Liberation Miniatures and first off will be the Platoon HQ so there'll be a Pl Comdr, Pl Sgt, Private with radio and depending on unit a Private with an additional weapon of either a 2" mortar or an M79.

20mm Argentine Oerlikon Twin 35mm AAA Part 3

 Work progressing,

The crew are finished.

As previously described, I had issues with the print lines in particular on the top of the gun housing

In the end all I decided to do was cut the hatch off sand smooth and replace with plasticard, the photo below shows this after the work and the basic paint on.

The carriage was attached to the base, miliput turf blocks added as well as the spent rounds.

So that's where we are, on a side issue the 2 Argentine radio operators got finished as well.

20mm Argentine Oerlikon Twin 35mm AAA Part 2

I've been pondering this model for a while and after initially thinking about putting lots of extra details on I've eventually decided to do only the essential barrel replacement and leave it at that. so here's the beast dry fitted on a base.

I'm still not sure about the model the print lines look awful but I'm going to see what its like with paint on, here's hoping!

I've knocked up some ammo and a five man crew from Liberation, the seated gunner was for a .50cal so I had to alter his legs a wee bit and one of the standing gunners needed his jacket converted to a parka and helmet cover added.

Be throwing some paint at it next!

On a side issue I also cleaned up a couple of the new Argentine Radio operators from Liberation, I'll be painting these at the same time.
