Folks just to let you know myself and my 17yr old son Alex are taking part in the PARAS 10 endurance march tomorrow. The event is now in its 5th year and is the same 10 mile endurance march Parachute Regiment recruits must complete as part of P Company. Entrants must complete the event in boots carrying a 35lb bergan. I did my P Company week in 1982 and I did the PARAS 10 last in 2009, I'm a bit older now so I don't think I'll be doing it in 1hr 42 like I did in '82 The photo above is from the 2009 event. You can check out details of the event here

Alex is running a just giving page here;

All money raised goes to The Parachute Regiment charity which supports wounded soldiers and their families. A small way to thank the boys out in Helmand, all donations no matter how small gratefully received.

Well done matie me and Alex enjoyed it, he's never done anything like it before and he did really well, its always going to be a culture shock for the uninitiated!
DeleteI bet when you did it in 82 you didn't have camelbaks either! Our generation of soldiers are spoiled :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck mang!
Thanks Tim, in 82 it was DMS boots and the old Airborne Bergan which wasn't the most comfortable sac, oh how I remember the Bergan burns :)
DeleteMe and Alex enmjoyed yesterday, it was very hot and there were quite a few who went down with the heat, could I take this oppotunity to say a very big thanks to all those folks who sponsored Alex, a very worthy cause! Photos to follow!
