Had a request for a 28mm Afghan Compound, I'd checked out the mdf ones available but wasn't happy with the wall thicknesses and general size, so decided to build from scratch. Dougie. As a basis for size, roof/floor height I used the Renedra Mud Brick House.
The compound is constructed from 10mm craftfoam which is very easy to work with.
A view of the basic form.
The square edges and corners are sanded to give the Afghan look.
Internal floors put in
These are removable
Corners distressed
Murder hole added
The compound with texture added using filler
Doors constructed
Painted and distressed
Basic colour added and based
Doors hung
Job done with some bits and bobs added for character
Oh my! That is sweet!

DeleteGreat work there. That will be a great centre piece for a table.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Pete.
Looks great :D What's your technique on the filler? Do you make it quite thin and paint it on or make it thicker and apply it 'spatula' style?
ReplyDeleteDougie, That is some great looking stuff. Where did you get the 10mm foam? I cannot find it anywhere I look.

Dougie
I checked out Panel Systems and got a quote on a box of 10mm shipped to the US. The freight was 130 British Pounds. Thanks for the information though. Your stuff looks great. I will have to go another route for now.
DeleteThat's crazy Chip, there must be a similar product in the US, I'd have a good google search.
DeleteDougie,
ReplyDeleteThose look great. if you don't mind me asking. Where did you get the 10mm foam? I cannot find it anywhere. Also, is it rigid?
Thanks,
Chip
Dougie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. I emailed the company to see if they have anyone selling the product in the US. I appreciate the help.
