Latest Books

I've recently read these 2 books written by Leigh Neville and both published by Osprey;
"The British Army in Afghanistan 2006-14" Elite205
"Special Forces in the War on Terror"

If you are in the slightest interested in this period these books are a must!
"The British Army in Afghanistan 2006-14" is a great place to start if your interest is in this period. Leigh gives a short introduction to Helmand then covers the war in 4 stages, 2006, 2007-2009, 2009-2011 and 2011-2014. This works well and he covers the operations in a logical order with some excellent first person accounts that he's obviously had access to. There's also an excellent section on Weapons and Equipment, which Leigh excels at and to top it off, its been illustrated by the very talented Peter Dennis. I can't recommend this book highly enough, buy it!
"Special Forces in the War on Terror" is also by Osprey, its a hardback coming in at 336 pages chock full of photos. Leigh has again broken this up into logical chapters covering most theatres post 9/11 with an obvious concentration on Iraq and Afghanistan. Again Leigh shows that he's got the right contacts and the detail and descriptions of engagements are excellent, once again I would thoroughly recommend this book!

"Three Days in June" 3PARA Mount Longdon by James O'Connell

Received my hard copy of the book this morning and it is superbly produced. As regulars will know its been available for your kindle for a while and the author has produced a limited hard copy edition. It's a hardback book A4 size and has got some really great photos included, Jimmy, a veteran of the battle has visited Longdon since and there are some excellent aerial photos of the battlefield that are ideal to view when reading about the company, platoon and section movements. Without a doubt this is the best description of a Bn action I've ever read and I've read a few! If you have any interest in the conflict you need to buy this book, its available on Amazon for your kindle and if you want the superb hardback book you can order direct from the author on the facebook page, "Three days in June".

"A cold night in June" by Sgt Robert Lofthouse.
The second one is simply superb, "Three Days in June" by James O'Connell, available as a kindle download at the moment but there is a limited edition hardback coming soon. "No Easy Day" by Mark Owen

Got it yesterday, finished it today hard to put down 1st First hand account of Op. Neptune Spear in Abbotabad. Lots of online comments around the perceived security breaches, probably best to read it and decide. Some good kit photos, HK MP7 and 416 and the latest generation NVGs as well as a great set of plans of the target building complex. Time to get the foamboard out! Dougie
