What's new for 2022?

 Folks, this is an update on my thoughts for the coming year wargaming wise. The major event for my wargaming year is the 40th anniversary of the Falklands war and I'll be trying to get my 20mm project completed before the anniversary of the Argentine invasion. So....

Focus No.1

This will be to finish off my 20mm Falklands collection, it's progressing well as regulars will know albeit starting a good few years ago, left to do are;

the 3 coastal terrain tiles

16 man SAS/SF Troop

4 Argentine aircraft, 1 Turbo Mentor, 2 Pucaras and a Short Skyvan

Focus No.2

28mm Vietnam project, I really want to get cracking with this, the lead mountain for this project is growing with a mixture of Empress, Gringo 40s and Full Metal Miniatures, initially it's going to be Hue'68 but I've already been tempted by Empress Anzacs, MACV SOG and SEALs

Focus No.3

Finish off the odds and sods I have started and not finished mainly but not limited to, 28mm Napoleonic skirmish, 6mm Modern, 6mm WW2.

The other news is that I'll shortly be starting a wargaming channel on Youtube, this is still in the development stage, I haven't decided on a name yet but "Dougie's Wargaming Blog Show" is looking likely, I'll update on here and also on my Facebook painting page how this is progressing and when it's going live.

To finish off here's some 6mm WW2 stuff I've recently completed, I've been quite taken with "Iron Cross" rules by Great Escape Games, these are simple quick play rules which work really well, not as detailed as some people may want but for a fun quick game I'm liking them.

Skirmish Sangin South Armagh

 A recent game me and the boy played, although Skirmish Sangin is designed for the war in Afghanistan it works really well for any modern low level skirmish scenario or theatre. South Armagh fits well with the British Army's fight with PIRA. There's other content relating to Skirmish Sangin on the blog just check out the subject headings.

The basic game scenario was that following a PIRA ASU being compromised the 7 man unit had fled across the fields towards a British 4 man patrol from the recce platoon of the resident battalion.

Here's the terrain, the game was played using my 28mm figures

Some details

The Brits deployed first in the hedgerows

The compromised ASU entered from the bottom left hand corner of the board running

The engagement went as expected with the Brits following the "Yellow Card" procedure and initiated an ambush this caused massive morale checks on the terrorists who after a short firefight surrendered, of the 7 the result was 1 shot dead, 1 seriously wounded, 4 surrendered and 1 managed to run off last seen heading towards the border.

Regulars will already know I really rate this system and as usual it performed well.

20mm Falklands Terrain Part 4

 Work commenced on the 3 coastline boards, I wanted a section of beach and sea, here's a view from the Islands

Fairly standard so I've got the initial beach colour on, for the sea I'll be using the toilet paper and white glue method 😉

The top part will be terraced to match in with the boards, they were initially designed for a Goose Green scenario with the coastline being Camilla Creek/Brenton Loch but they'll be adaptable.

 Managed to get the 6 full boards completed, I have 1 with a rock formation on, 2 with streams and 3 plain. More pics below;

20mm Falklands Terrain Part 2

 Well just about there on the Falklands terrain boards, I have 6 500mm x 500mm full boards and 3 500mm x 250mm half boards for a coastline. At the moment I'm just finishing off the 6 full boards, here's some shots of one of the boards, it has a central hill with rock formations.

28mm Peninsula Brits for "Song of Drums and Shakos"

 Finished some Perry Plastic Brits for "Song of Drums and Shakos", this is a low level skirmish game using the "Song of Blades and Heroes" system by Andrea Sfiligoi. Simple, fast playing, fun and inexpensive, currently £7.99 on Amazon. The plastic guys painted as 5th Foot in the Peninsula.
